Racial Justice

Racial justice or racial equity is defined as the systematic fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for all.

  • In 2021, Black Americans were imprisoned at 5.0 times the rate of whites, while American Indians and Latinx people were imprisoned at 4.2 times and 2.4 times the white rate, respectively.
  • Black youth are 5.6 times as likely to be incarcerated as white youth. In 2023–2025 data, 46% of youth in placement were Black.

  • Overall unemployment among all Americans was 4.4 percent at the end of 2025. Unemployment rates for Black workers was 7.5 percent compared to 3.8 percent among White workers.

Under the US constitution, all are created equal and have equal rights to include “…Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” While progress has been made, there is still more we can all do to relinquish the inequities that continue today. Racial injustice impacts all of us.
